abstract = "This study analyzes the characteristics of the extreme
precipitation event which took place in 2013 encompassing the
states of Esp{\'{\i}}rito Santo (ES) and Minas Gerais (MG).
These two states are neighbors to the mountainous region of Rio de
Janeiro (RJ). The wavelet transform and multifractal spectrum
analysis are used to characterize the spatio-temporal variability
of precipitation. Data from surface stations and TRMM satellite
data set were used. The results suggest that this extreme event is
associated to the convective activity of the South Atlantic
Convergence Zone (SACZ) which indicates the importance of this
system with respect to the corresponding impacts such as flooding
and landslides in the region.",
